Beverly A. Hemphill Willis, 74, of Lake City, formerly of Dunedin, FL, passed away peacefully at the Haven-Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center on Wednesday morning, September 30, 2020 after an extended illness. She was born in Safety Harbor, FL on December 12, 1945 to the late Owen and Pearl Downs Thomas. She has made the Lake City area her home since 2002 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She retired from Verizon after 35 years and in her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and traveling. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly and they were her world. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Marvis A. “Buddy” Hemphill; four brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her husband of 18 years, David A. Willis of Lake City; sons, Timothy John Hemphill (Michelle) of Holiday, FL and Stephen Andrew Hemphill (Maria) of Palm Harbor, FL; sister, Lavonia Angelbeck of Idaho. Her grandchildren, T.J. Hemphill, Justin Hemphill, Kaleb Hemphill (Nicole), Stephen Hemphill and Suzette Hemphill along with her great grandchildren, Hunter Hemphill, Kolton Hemphill and Landyn Hemphill. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Willis will be conducted on Friday, October 2, 2020 at 4:00 P.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Robert Bass and Rev. John Hathaway officiating. Interment will follow on Saturday afternoon, October 3, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. in the Sylvan Abbey Cemetery in Clearwater, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to the Haven-Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center, 6037 W US Highway 90, Lake City, FL 32055. For those attending the services, CDC guidelines regarding masks will be followed.
