Betty Daughtry Obituary

Betty Jean Hatch Daughtry, 89, of Lake City died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 13, 2019. Betty Jean was born in Branford, Florida. She was the youngest daughter of Robert E. Hatch and Mamie Wood Hatch born on July 9, 1929. She graduated from Landon High School in Jacksonville, FL in 1947. She attended the University of Florida for a period of time.

Survivors include son: Palmer Daughtry; two daughters: Debbie Odom and Diane Harrell (Joe); five grandchildren: Karen Archibald (Matt), Ben Odom, Zachary Daughtry, Kathryn Daughtry and David Harrell; one great grandchild: Blake Ian Daughtry; two sisters-in-law: Faye Mullins and Shirley Hatch plus many nieces and nephews. She’s preceded in death by her husband Palmer Daughtry. They shared 63 years of marriage before his death.

Two things were of upmost importance to Betty Jean throughout her life: her faith and her family. She would tell you that she’s faced adversities in life, but through adversity comes blessings and strength. She felt blessed to have been born into a family that believed — and lived — love, help, and kindness. Betty Jean enjoyed fishing, gardening, her flowers, and her crafts. Most of all she loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great grand child. Her house often had a revolving door: people coming and going ALL the time. Very very busy! Which she loved!! She cherished spending time with her family and will be greatly missed by that family. Betty Jean also loved her church family and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, Lake City, and of the Charity Sunday School class.

Many thanks to Haven Hospice for the care they gave our mother during her last days of life. We are humbled and grateful to her neighbors and church family for their love, thoughtfulness, and support during this time.
