Barbara Nicole “Nickie” Brett, 49, a life-long resident of Lake City, passed away on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021, in the ICU at North Florida Regional in Gainesville, Florida, after her courageous battle with COVID.

Nickie was born on December 7th, 1971, in Lake City, Florida. She graduated from Columbia County High School in 1991. She also attended and graduated from City College with an Associate of Science degree in Allied Health. Nickie was well known for her zest for life and positivity. Nickie was a member of the New Beginnings restoration church. To know Nickie was to love her. She loved the Lord, and she adored her kids and grandkids. Nickie is preceded in death by her mother Irene Alford and sister Bonnie Brett.

Nickie is survived by her two children Garrett L. McElhenney (Kayla) and Kayden D. Mitchell, two grandchildren Weston L. McElhenney, and Jaxon A. McElhenney, Father William A. Brett (Shirley), and stepfather Steve Alford. Siblings Casey A. Brett (Jennifer), Tracy L. Laird (Darrell), and Stephen M. Alford Jr. (Holly).

Nickie’s celebration of life will be held at the New Beginnings Church, date to be announced.
