Anthony "Tony" Byrd

Anthony “Tony” Byrd, 68 of Alachua, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023.  He was born in Lake City to the late Bill and Mildred Mixon Byrd.  Tony was raised in Lake City and had been a resident of Alachua since 2010.  When Tony was younger he attended the Lake City First Assembly of God and really enjoyed attending church.  He enjoyed grooming the yard, doing his chores on the farm and was a huge Superman fan.  Tony loved being around people and making them laugh and one way he could make you laugh was by teasing you.  He also loved reminiscing about his family and telling the story of the time that he and his mother went to the fair and rode the ferris wheel.

Survivors include his sister, Sandra Hartman (Dan), Lake City; his brother, Billy Ray Byrd (Wanda), Lakeland; and three nephews, Clay Byrd, Mike Byrd and Matthew Hartman.

A memorial service honoring Tony’s life will be conducted on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 4:00 PM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with his nephew, Pastor Matthew Hartman, officiating.  Interment will follow at a later date at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  A time of visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Friday.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Vocational Industries, 7202 West SR 235, Alachua, FL 32615.
