Alice Elizabeth Ivester, 93 of Lake City, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023 at the Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City. She was born in Columbus, Georgia, the second oldest of six children to the late Oscar Kramer Mintz and Alice Dallas Smith Mintz. Mrs. Ivester had made her home in Lake City since 1978 and had lived in numerous places throughout her husband’s long career in the United States Air Force. She was of the Baptist Faith and was a long time member of Southside Baptist Church. Mrs. Ivester loved chocolate, jelly bellies, reading, doing word searches, knitting, crocheting, watching Andy Griffith and John Wayne movies and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 71 years, CMSGT Charlton L. Ivester, USAF Retired; and four sisters, Sue Sheldon, Mildred J. Williams, Betty Jo Wilson and Tillie Falgout.
Survivors include her children, Alice Pamela Savannah Ivester and Charlton “Bud” Ivester (YoungYi), all of Lake City; one sister, Barbara Ann Berliner, Myrtle Beach, SC; five grandchildren, Chris Glemser, Amanda Hatfield, Pamela Marie Ivester, David Ivester and Tommy Ivester; seven great-grandchildren, Cimone Hatfield, Ondria Glemser, Alexis Glemser, Cody Glemser, Lily Asher Glemser, Gunner Glemser and Arabelle Myers; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 1l:00 AM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Herman Hampton officiating. A time of visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service in the chapel from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday. Interment will follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida on Monday, August 7, 2023 at 1:30 PM.
