Obituary

October 28, 1932- August 26-2023

William Noah Lindsay died on Saturday, August 26, 2023, in the care of Haven Hospice of Gainesville, Florida. He was 90 years old. "Noah", as he was known to those that loved him, was the son of the late William Noah Lindsay Sr. and Ruth Tucker Lindsay both of Moultrie, Georgia. He was also predeceased by his sister Mary Bridges of Moultrie. Noah loved his family deeply and told stories of them often.

Noah graduated from Moultrie High School. Between high school and college, he proudly served in the United States Army and was the highest graduate in his class at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds Ordinance School. After completing his first two years at Norman College, he earned a bachelor's degree from Mercer University. He also earned two master's degrees. A Master of History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Library Science from Florida State University. His academic honors included a Fulbright Scholarship and an R.J. Reynolds Fellowship in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He spent his career years working at Lake City Community College (later known as Florida Gateway College) as an instructor of history as well as the Assistant Director and Director of the college library. While in service to the college, he made it a point to get to know and welcome every new faculty member because of his deep love for both the college and humanity.

Noah was an avid traveler. In 2008 he made a trip around the world. He studied abroad in Mexico and Japan and taught overseas in American schools in Iran, South Korea, Suriname, and Slovakia. Despite his love of adventure abroad, he was always drawn home to Lake City, FL where he was a member of the Elks Club, an Elder and choir member at the First Presbyterian Church of Lake City, and a founding member of a local wine tasting group. Noah loved to entertain and cook. He was known for his third Saturday volleyball games followed by a covered dish dinner.

In his spare time, Noah had many, varied interests and hobbies. Noah loved to act in local amateur theater productions throughout his life including the last year. Noah was also a voracious reader and often had multiple books going at any time. He was a gifted chef and enjoyed pulling from the cuisine of the locales he had visited. While doing any of these activities, he would also be found with classical music playing in the background. He also collected art and told many involved stories about each piece in his collection.

While Noah leaves behind an extended family with whom he enjoyed spending time, he will be missed by many close friends, whom he considered family, all over the world; especially Lake City and Gainesville where he spent much of his life. A Celebration of life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Lake City, FL at 2:00 pm, Friday, September 29, 2003
