Wayne Charles Spradley departed this life on July 23, 2024, at the Malcom Randall Veterans Affairs Medical Center, following a brief illness. Wayne was born on August 9, 1945 in Lake City to the late Joe and Myrtle Spradley. He was a graduate of Columbia High School where he played baseball, and tried out for the Pittsburg Pirates during his senior year. Wayne served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany but was able to visit many other places during that time. After being honorably discharged, he worked at Guerdens Mobile Home plant with his brother Howard, for many years until the plant closed. He built homes with Whitey's Cabinets in Homestead, Florida following hurricane Andrew, and traveled to Aruba to build a home there.
Wayne was previously married to Hettie Fay Wheeler, and together they raised Stephanie and Daniel. He enjoyed, riding through the woods and playing with the church softball league for many years. Wayne loved his family and did all he could to spoil Stephanie, affectionately known as "Sissy" to him, and Daniel "Bud". The greatest love of his life was taking his grandsons hunting and fishing.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Spradley and Myrtle Pearce Spradley, his brother Buck and two very special nephews, Mike Spradley and Mark Spradley. Hs is survived by daughter Stephanie Jolley, Summerfield, FL, son Daniel (Amber)Morgan, Lake City, three grandsons, Logan, Hunter and Kayden, brother Howard (Cindy), White Springs, FL, special niece, Melinda Spradley Shrum and many other family members and friends.
A funeral service for Wayne will be conducted on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dustin Busscher officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery (US HWY 441 North). The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Monday evening, July 29, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
