Obituary

Sergeant First Class Wayne Sapp, Ret., age 78 passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022.  He was born in Miami, Florida on December 5, 1943 to the late Mitchel A. Sapp and Anna Titman Sapp.  Mr. Sapp was raised in both Lake City and Miami and was a graduate of South West High School in Miami class of 1960.  Following graduation, Mr. Sapp enlisted into the United States Army in 1960, completed boot camp at Fort Gordon, Georgia and served for two and half years serving during Vietnam.   He then worked for approximately ten years with the Broward County Sheriff's Office as both a Deputy Sheriff and Juvenile Detective.  Following his time with the Broward County Sheriff's Office, Mr. Sapp went back active in the United States Army and retired in 1987 with 18 years of service, retiring as a disabled veteran.  In 1970, he met his wonderful wife Judy and the two were married in West Hollywood, Florida.  Together, they had a loving family and raised four wonderful children.  During his last 8 years in the Army, he served as recruiter and really enjoyed serving his country and being in the Army.  Mr. Sapp was a member of the Florida Sheriff's Association, the Lions Club, the National Rifle Association, the American Legion Post #57 and the Disabled American Veterans.  Mr. Sapp was of the Baptist faith and was a current member of the Wellborn Baptist Church in Wellborn.  Above all, Mr. Sapp loved being a husband, father and Paw Paw.  Mr. Sapp was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Bennett; four sisters, Bonnie Norwood, Christina "Tina" Hall, Carolyn Estevez and Beatrice Sapp.

Survivors include his wife of 51 1/2 years, Judy Sapp, Lake City; one son, Wayne Sapp, Jr. and his wife Michelle; one daughter, Carrie Skinner and her husband Thomas, Lake City; four grandchildren, Maria, Noah, Weslyn and Rylee; one sister, Patricia Johnson, Wellborn; two brothers, James "Jimmy" Sapp (Barbara), Lake City and Gordon Sapp (Kathy), Sarasota.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel.  Interment will follow at Wellborn Cemetery, Wellborn, Florida with full military honors.  Visitation with the family will be Sunday evening February 6, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Mr. Sapp.
