Warren Douglas "Doug" Moore January 21, 1934 – February 4, 2025
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Warren "Doug" Moore, who passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, in Lake City, Florida, at the age of 91. Born on January 21, 1934, in Baker County, Georgia. Doug lived a life full of adventure, hard work, and unwavering love for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Alma Gene Moore, his brothers Sonny Moore and Stanley Moore, and his sister Maxine Moore.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Moore; his son, Chuck Moore (Priscilla); and his daughter, Cindy Bonyata. He was a proud grandfather to Lindsay Hellman (Judd), Abbey Miller (Haywood), Chelsea Bonyata (Natalia), and Alexis Moore, and a doting great-grandfather to Brooklyn and Layla Hellman.
He is also survived by his sisters Sue Whitaker of Leesburg, GA, Sherry Donalson, Myra Turner, Hilda Lashley, and brother Charles Moore of Bainbridge, GA.
Doug proudly served in the United States Army as a member of the 101st Airborne Division, the legendary Screamin' Eagles. He loved to share stories of his time in service, especially his 21 successful jumps and how he "jumped out of perfectly good airplanes". He was also proud to have served to protect the historic Little Rock Nine back in 1957.
After his military service, Doug began his career with Southern Airways in Bainbridge, Georgia. Later, he moved to Lake City, where he worked for 18 years at Aero Corporation. Doug also owned three businesses before retiring from Columbia County.
His fondest memories were building his race car, developing life long friends along the way. He had great admiration for his driver, Colen Brinkley and went on to win multiple races with #19. Racing buddies Jack Hampton and Johnnie Lassiter were also his closest friends until the end. Doug was always willing to lend his knowledge, help with repairs, or simply spend time with friends doing what he loved.
The greatest joy of Doug's life was his family. He cherished his wife, Cathy, with whom he shared many years of love and devotion. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising their children Chuck and Cindy, and later finding immense joy in their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Doug's warmth, wisdom, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, and countless cherished memories.
