Obituary

Vernice Carmack Hammons, 84, of Lake City, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at the Lake City Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Knox County, Kentucky on September 25, 1936 to the late Clark and Nollie Williamson Carmack. She has made Lake City her home since 1992 and was a member of the Huntsville Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and cleaning as well as spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Rev. Elijah Hammons; son, Tony Hammons and her two brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Bethea (Steve) of Lake City; daughter-in-law, Linda Hammons; grandchildren, Jennifer Pumbley (Tim), Christy Tipton (John), Amy Hammons Carty (Brian), Christopher Bethea (Amanda) and Curtis Bethea (Melody) along with eight great-grandchildren.

A private graveside funeral service for Mrs. Hammons will be held in the Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction and care of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to the Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery Association.
