Verna Mae Smith, 87 of Lake City, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024 at the Bedrock Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Lake City.  She was a native and lifelong resident of Columbia County and daughter of the late Ray and Agnes Lewis.  Mrs. Smith was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church of Lake City and also the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #8.  She retired from Food Lion grocery store in 1997 and had also worked G&H Food Store in Lake City from 1972 until 1978.  Following retirement, she loved worshiping with her church family, cooking and gardening.  Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 18 years, Randall L. "Bo" Smith; her son, Michael Walker; one grandson, Chris Walker; one brother, Joe Lewis; one sister, Jewell Davis.

Survivors include her grandson, Shawn Walker, Lake City; two brothers, John L. Lewis (Adrian), Lakeland, GA, W. Ray Lewis (Sandi) Bullhead City, AZ ; one sister, Loma Willis (Chuck), Satsuma; and her church family and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be conducted on Friday, November 29, 2024 at 3:00 PM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with her brother, John L. Lewis, officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  A time of visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service on Friday from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pine Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.
