Trudie Stewart Johns, 90, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, March 8, 2026 at The Canopy at Harper Lake in Lake City after a brief illness. She was born in Taylor, Florida on September 16, 1935 to the late Charles T. Stewart and Gertrude Gordy Stewart. She was a military wife, living in California while her husband served in the Navy before coming back to North Florida. She served for eight years as the Financial Secretary for the First Presbyterian Church in Lake City; then served for over twenty-four years in the same capacity with Parkview Baptist Church before she retired to take care of her husband when his health began to decline. In her spare time, she enjoyed square dancing, sewing, camping and cooking. More importantly, she loved her family deeply and enjoyed hosting them all over for cookouts. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of over 59 years, Hugh Wallace Johns, Sr.; brothers, Conrad Hayes Stewart & Donald Stewart (Mary); and her sisters, Gordene Stewart DuBose (A.D.), Laverta Roper (Al) & Constance Stewart Saunders (Morris).
She is survived by her three sons, Wally Johns (Reba), Gerald Johns (Charlene) & Scott Johns (Stephanie); and her grandchildren, Candi Friend (Matt), Joshua Johns (Cicely), Christy Pisano, Aaron Johns (Jodi), Kayla Perla, Rebekah Baker (Matt), Emily Harris (David), Sarah Johns, Hannah Johns & Joy Johns. Seventeen great-grandchildren with one on the way and seven great-great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Johns will be conducted on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 12 Noon in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Pastor Doyle Bell officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 11:00 A.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.
