Troy Jackson Green, 55, of Lake City, passed away on Monday morning, January 12, 2026 at the HCA Florida- North Florida Hospital in Gainesville after a brief illness. He was born in Lake City on March 5, 1970 and has made Lake City his home all of his life. He worked for the Columbia County Sheriff's Office for over 30 years, and retired as a Lieutenant in 2022. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding dirt roads, fishing, hunting, spending time with his grandchildren and swimming with them; spending time with his dog; and checking on his mom every day. He is preceded in death by his father, Harry Stanton Green; his maternal grandparents, Gus & Ola Wheeler Kapes; and his paternal grandparents, Acy & Cassie Davis Green.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Josh & Lauren Green of Lake City; mother, Sparkle Kapes Green of Lake City; grandchildren, Wyatt Lane Green & Brantley Michael Green both of Lake City; Aunts and Uncles, Theda & L.P. Hill, Sue & George Brannon, Harry Kapes, Kathy Daugherty, Connie Mosley (Lamar) and Judy Odom all of Lake City; brothers, Greg Green (Cherrie) of Hartford, AL & Todd Green of Lake City; and two of his best friends, Holly Castagna & Melvin Sheppard both of Lake City. Many extended family members and friends also survive.

A funeral service for Mr. Green will be conducted on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bo Hammock officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday evening, January 15, 2026 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to the American Cancer Society.
