September 16, 1940 – November 4, 2021
Tony Martin Kurtz, 81 of Lake City, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at the Haven Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center in Lake City. He was born in Danville, KY to the late Fred Thomas Kurtz and Polly Middleton Kurtz and served our country with the United States Coast Guard. Mr. Kurtz had made his home in Lake City since 1963 when he relocated here with the Florida Highway Patrol as a Homicide Investigator. He was the owner and operator of Duval Automotive in Lake City from 1973 to 2015. Mr. Kurtz was a member of Christian Heritage Church in Lake City and served multiple mission trips with Living Waters Ministry to Guatemala and also with YWAM to Turkey. He had many talents such as a master gardener, carpenter, photographer, pilot and building and driving race cars. He served for many years with the Lake City Air Show and he enjoyed traveling in his RV during his retirement with his wife and together they visited 49 of 50 states. .
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Barbara Miller Kurtz, Lake City; two children, Kristine Kurtz Smith and Tony Martin Kurtz, Jr. (Tracy Lyn Kurtz) all of Lake City; brother, Mark Thomas Kurtz (Leslie), Wilmore, KY; sister, Teri Carmody (Ed), Jacksonville; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at 4:00 PM at Christian Heritage Church in Lake City Pastor Chris Jones officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday. Interment with military honors will follow on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Living Waters Ministry at https://www.livingwateradoptachild.org/ in memory of Mr. Kurtz.
