Obituary

Timm Floyd Ross, a dedicated family man, U.S. Navy Veteran, and respected former Miami-Dade Police Officer and Detective, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024, at the age of 76 surrounded by family. Born on December 3, 1947, at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, Timm was a man of humor and generosity, whose life's journey was marked by a profound commitment to his family and community.

A proud alumnus of Southwest Miami Senior High School, Class of 1966, Timm worked as a zookeeper at Crandon Park Zoo during his high school years. He pursued his passion for art at Young Harris College in Georgia. Before joining the Navy, he worked in advertising at Sears Roebuck and Company on Biscayne Boulevard. His adventurous spirit led him to serve as a quartermaster in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Salish and USS Kaskaskia, where he honed his leadership skills and dedication to service.

Timm's career as a police officer in Miami-Dade County was marked by several significant achievements, including providing aircraft security for El Al Airlines, participating in the security detail for the Pope's arrival in Miami, and pioneering the first pickpocket database in collaboration with the FBI at Miami International Airport. He was an active member in the community by volunteering his time with the Southwest Miami High reunion committee and Pig Bowl police charity football planning committee. His work was distinguished by his compassion and unwavering sense of justice, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and the community alike. His commitment extended beyond local efforts as he was also a proud member of the International Police Association. Even after his retirement, Timm remained actively involved with several organizations, including the Police Benevolent Association, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the River Rat Foundation, demonstrating his lifelong dedication to service.

Retiring to Lake City, Florida, Timm cherished the tranquility of his surroundings and devoted his time to caring for his beloved animals and family on his property. Timm had a special talent for drawing logos for patriotic and various service organizations to promote unity.

Timm leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years, Katalin Máthé Ross; his beloved children, Renee (Kyle) Ilhardt, Octavia (Eric) Figueiras, Timm (Melissa) Ross; his seven adoring grandchildren: Gabriella (24), Kylie (22), Karson (19), Klayton (17), Olivia (13), William (9) and Wesley (7); and his cherished brother, Roger Ross. His legacy of kindness, bravery, and artistic spirit will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

A memorial service will be held at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Lake City, FL, on Thursday, May 16th, with a viewing at 5 p.m. and service following at 6 p.m. The service will be live streamed on Facebook for those who cannot attend in person. Timm will be laid to rest on Friday, May 17th at 11 a.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery with military funeral honors.
