Mr. Thomas L. "Poppy" McGee, 70, of Lake City passed away on Monday, August 19, 2013 at North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville following an illness. A native of Graceville, Florida, Mr. McGee was the son of the late Grady and Ruby Baxley McGee and had lived in Gainesville and Deland before moving to Lake City 35 years ago. Tom was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, a Deacon at Parkview Baptist Church, a member of the Lake City Kiwanis Club, and worked for Barnett Bank and retired from Columbia County Bank. He was the 2012 Senior Volunteer of the Year for Eastside Elementary School, and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family was the joy of his life, and he was affectionately known as "Poppy" to many.
Mr. McGee is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gloria McGee of Lake City; two daughters, Lori McGee Jones (Jeff) and Staci McGee Fennell (James); three grandchildren, Shelbi and Garrett Fennell, and Emili Jones all of Live Oak; three brothers, Jerry McGee (Susie) of Crestview, FL, Lloyd McGee (Earlene) of Marianna, FL, and Lamar McGee of Graceville, FL; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. McGee will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Parkview Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Tatem officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Lake City. Visitation with the family will be held from 3:00-4:00 P.M. Thursday at the church (1hour before service time). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkview Baptist Church Building Fund, 268 NW Lake Jeffery Road, Lake City, FL 32055.
