Thomas Hogarth McDonald, Sr., 86, of Lake City, passed away Sunday evening, January 14, 2018 at the Shands Lake Shore Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Jane Frances Hogarth and John Gilbert Carman. He lived in Jacksonville for the first ten years of his life, and then moved to Washington, D.C., where he was raised under the tutelage of his adopted father, Walter H. McDonald.  He graduated from Anacostia High School and the University of Florida class of 1958.  He met and married the love of his life while living in Jacksonville and moved to Lake City in 1970 as Comptroller of Lake Shore Hospital.  He was a US Army Veteran. He was a member of Kiwanis, and presided as president from 1978-79. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, attending Florida Gator Athletic Games and sailing. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He loved to play chess with his grandchildren and was known to let them win. He was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years; Ethel Norris McDonald of Lake City; sons; Thomas H. McDonald, Jr. (Kathy) of St. Johns and John F. McDonald (Julie) of Jacksonville; sister; Florence Morris of Ocean View, Delaware; and four grandsons; Sean, Stephen, Branden and Aiden McDonald and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services for Mr. McDonald will be conducted on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M.
