IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Teresa Mcrae
Dance
June 15, 1958 – January 31, 2025
Teresa McRae Dance was born on June 15, 1958 in Jacksonville, Florida to Terrell Hayes McRae and Jean Carolyn Durrance McRae. She was their first child together. Proceeding her in death was her older brother Michael Hayes McRae. She is survived by her parents of Lake City & survived by her siblings; Cheri Jean Conway of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Cristopher Terrell McRae of Tallahassee (Susan), Thomas Bradley McRae of Lake City (Cassandra) and her son, Dr. Dustin Philip McRae of St Augustine (Shelby). She is also survived by three grandsons, Hayden, Duncan, and Ramsey McRae.
Teresa graduated from Wolfson High School in Jacksonville Florida in 1976. She then went on to attend BYU - Idaho (then called Rick's College) in Rexburg & and eventually got a degree from Edward Waters College in Jacksonville.
She worked at various secretarial positions & other office jobs for about 10 years before sustaining injuries from numerous serious car crashes, that left her permanently and totally disabled.
Teresa was baptized at the age of eight years old, and attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was active as her health permitted. She was a member of the Price Creek Ward in Lake City, Florida.
Teresa had a wonderful testimony of her Savior & of his redeeming grace. She had a testimony of the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and the restored Gospel in these latter days.
Teresa suffered many trials in life. She was married twice, but neither worked out. As mentioned, Teresa also was involved in numerous car crashes, some of which were severe, which included the necessity for rods to be placed almost the entire length in her lumbar spine back in the 1980's. She also had medical instrumentation placed in her neck & foot.
For nearly 50 years, Teresa suffered unimaginable pain.
Despite this, Teresa developed an insatiable desire for reading and learning. It would not be uncommon for her to read over 100 books a year. Her favorite were true crime murder novels. Teresa also loved music. All types of music. However, her favorite was southern rock and country. (Teresa was friends with a small band in the early 1970's that went on to be known as Lynyrd Skynyrd. When she was about 17 or 18 she declined a marriage proposal from the original bass guitarist for the band because he was "too old & not very attractive").
Teresa had an unmatched wit and sense of humor. If someone spent more than a minute or two with her, she would be telling them stories and jokes, and have them laughing or turning red in their face. Usually both. Teresa did not see color, race, or religion, as an impediment to friendship. Teresa had many friends from many different backgrounds. Teresa also wrote poems & would share them often. Many she wrote down, but other, she just had memorized.
Teresa was never short on trying to help someone in need; despite herself often being the one in need. Teresa loved her father, as she often stated & wrote that he always was there for her and believed in her when few others did. She also loved her family with all her heart. She loved her friends and caregivers, which there were many.
Now, she is in no more pain and is now with her loved ones that have preceded her in death and with her Savior & Redeemer, Jesus Christ.
