Sylvia Maudette Strickland, 84, of Lake City, passed away on Friday afternoon, September 5, 2025 at the HCA Florida – Lake City Hospital after a sudden illness. She was born in Baxley, Georgia on September 19, 1940 to the late Charles Monroe McElhenney and Mildred Hiers McElhenney; and graduated high school from White Springs. She has made the White Springs/Lake City area her home most all of her life and worked for over 40 years with the Clay Electric Company. In her spare time, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, loved going to church and being with her church family, loved reading and traveling. She is preceded in death by her brother, Melvin McElhenney and sister, Margie Jean Lawrence.

She is survived by her loving husband of over 66 years, Sidney "Sonny" Strickland, Jr. of Lake City; son, Rex Strickland (Cheryl) of Lake City; daughters, Lynnette Morgan (Darrell) of Lake City & Karen Strickland of Lake City; sisters, Marilene Musselwhite of Lake City & Lisa Williams of Tampa; and her sister-in-law, Margie Register of Lake City. Two grandchildren, Jason Strickland (Amanda) & Brittany Busby (Scott) both of Lake City; four great-grandchildren, Kinsleigh Strickland, Kade Strickland, Braden Busby & Madison Busby all of Lake City along with many nieces and nephews also survive.

A funeral service for Mrs. Strickland will be conducted on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. in the Pine Grove Baptist Church with Pastor James Roberts and Pastor Burl Harkey officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. prior to the service at the church.
