Mr. Stephen John Hanechak, 72, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the HCA FL Lake City Hospital following an extended illness. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Hanechak and his mother, Marion Nadolski; his two uncles, Ray and Joe Hanechak; and his stepdad, Norman H. McNamara. He had made Lake City his home for the past thirty years after moving from Westfield, Massachusetts. He was of the catholic faith and enjoyed working, being outside, riding the tractor and the golf cart, and spending time with his family. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the American Legion post fifty-seven in Lake City, FL.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Phyllis Hanechak, Lake City, FL; one son, Terry John Hanechak (Breanna), Westfield, Massachusetts; one daughter, Caitilin Hanechak, Lake City, FL; one sister, Debbie Bovat (Dan), Westfield, Massachusetts; one grandson, Jordan Hanechak; and his good friend Wade Willis of Lake City, FL.
A memorial service honoring the life of Stephen John Hanechak will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at the American Legion post fifty-seven located at 2602 SW Main Blvd, Lake City, FL 32025. All friends and family are invited to attend the service. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S US Hwy 441, Lake City, FL 32025.
