Mr. Stanley Joseph Petersen, 64 of Lake City, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City, Florida.  He was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin to the late Tovel Stanley and Mary Laverne Sayen Petersen.  Following high school, he joined the United States Navy, and spent the next 27 years with the Navy having retired in 2001 as a Senior Chief Aviation Machinist's Mate.  Mr. Petersen loved his career in the Navy and had a passion for helping Veterans.  Mr. Petersen had made his home in Lake City for the past 20 years having moved here from Lexington Park, MD and worked for TIMCO, Lowes, US Customs in Jacksonville and retired in 2013 from Columbia Correctional Institute.  He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and was the caretaker of his late son's car, "Jasmine".  Mr. Petersen attended Epiphany Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was preceded in death by his son, Daryl Petersen in 2006, one nephew, Ron Petersen and his brother in law, Dayle Bellin.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Gloria Orbon Petersen, Lake City; one brother, Michael Petersen (Lynda), Appleton, WI; his sister, Geraldine Bellin, Green Bay, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Christ Central Ministries Church with Pastor Lonnie Johns officiating.  Military honors will follow.  Visitation with the family will be Monday evening from 5-7:00 PM at the funeral home.  The family would like to extend their thanks to the Kindred Health Care and Deonna Willis for the care they provided.
