Shirley Craig Thomas Markham

Shirley Craig Thomas Markham, 91, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, July 25, 2026 at the Haven Hospice – Suwannee Valley Care Center, after an extended illness. She was a life-long resident of Lake City, born on February 27, 1935 to the late Robert Craig and Josephine Walsh Craig. She worked for many years as a Secretary and was a member of the Lantern Park Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, traveling and resting. She is preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Johnny H. Thomas and Roy D. Markham; and her two brothers, Robert Craig, Jr. and William J. “Bill” Craig.

She is survived by her two sons, Johnny Thomas, Jr. (Veronica) & David C. Thomas (Brenda) both of Lake City; and daughter, Judy Ann Thomas (Greg Knudsen) of Lake City. Five grandchildren, Amanda Dudley, Joey Leary, Amber Howard (Joe), Candice Hatch (Langdon) and David C. Thomas, II; ten great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; two step-children, Mary Lou Perkins (Cy) and Donna Cason (Grayson); along with many extended family members and friends also survive.

A funeral service for Mrs. Markham will be conducted on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Veronica Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.
