Shirley M. Hudson Deen, 82, of Lake City, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, October 8, 2021 at the Haven-Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center after an extended illness. She was born in Blountsville, Alabama on Skyball Mountain on October 17, 1938 to the late O.C. and Laura Beatrice Dunn Montgomery. She has made the Lake City area her home since 1963, moving here from Alabama and was a devoted member of the Wellborn Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her two brothers, Ralph Edward McAnnally & Charles Franklin McAnnally. She worked for Occidental for over 15 years and AREO Corporation for over 15 years before she retired. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, sewing and fellowship at church. Shirley was notoriously known for her fruit salad, love of chocolate, and pure kindness. She enjoyed listening to the best pianist and gospel music. She is preceded in death by both of her husbands, Joseph Hudson and Aubrey Deen.
She is survived by her children, Marty L. Hudson and Pennie J. Koon; grandchildren, Travis (Kathy), Jerry (Lindsay) and Kristen Koon (Buddy), Jason (Lindsay) and Josh Hudson; great-grandchildren, Hudson & Gunnar Koon, Keaton May, Rielynn Hudson and Owen Hudson. One lifelong best friend & her children: Sharon Robinson, Dana Griffin, & Kelly Griffin. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
A funeral service for Mrs. Deen will be conducted on Monday, October 11, 2021 at 4:00 P.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Brandon Witt officiating. Interment will follow on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. in the Nectar Cemetery in Alabama. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 2:00 P.M. prior to the services at the funeral home.
