Sheridan Shackelford Harper was born in St. Augustine, Florida on August 7, 1943, to longtime residents of Lake City, Florida, the late David "Pete" and Effie Mae "Sunny" Shackelford, died on May 6, 2016. Sheridan was raised in Lake City, Florida and attended the University of Florida, was a member of the Chi Omega sorority and graduated with a bachelor's degree in teaching. She married James Edward Register in 1968, had two children, Priscilla Dunn Register and Allison Leigh Register, and in 1979 she remarried Lewis Harper of Virginia. They enjoyed their summers in Winchester, Virginia and wintered in Lake City, Florida. He was truly her soul-mate, and they shared many happy years together. In 2007, Sheridan moved to south Florida where she enjoyed her time with her grandchildren, and had a strong Christian faith, and frequently attending Bible study classes at her nursing home. One of her favorite things was to have beautiful fresh flowers in her room which always seemed to brighten her day and lift her spirits. She liked to go on outings to Walmart for shopping and different local restaurants with her nursing home friends.
Sheridan is survived by her brother, David Shackelford, Jr. of Lake City; her two children, Priscilla Dunn Register of Thomasville, Georgia and Allison Leigh Register Bruns of Jupiter, Florida; and three grandchildren, Taylor Mae Luttenton, Elias Francesco Lavado and Riley James Lavado.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 4:00 PM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Dr. Cynthia M. Benz officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday from 3-4:00 PM at the funeral home.
