Sandra Kay Ross

Sandra Kay Ross, affectionately known to many as Miss Sandy, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, in Lake City, Florida. Born on March 21, 1945, in Peru, Indiana, Miss Sandy lived a life full of warmth, laughter, and resilience, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength that will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Miss Sandy’s early career reflected her warm and welcoming spirit—she was a waitress in her younger days, bringing smiles and comfort to those she served. Later, she took on the role of a security guard in Lake City, Florida, where she continued to demonstrate her dedication and care for her community.

Those who were fortunate enough to share moments with Miss Sandy remember her as a truly wonderful person who embraced life with joy. She was a beacon of happiness, always wearing a smile and happily spreading laughter wherever she went. Miss Sandy’s laugh and fun-loving nature were gifts she shared generously, making every moment bright and memorable.

Among the many treasured memories, one special recollection stands out: a trip to Cedar Keys where her happiness was palpable. Her love of travel created countless joyful experiences and stories that her family and friends will cherish forever. Yet, what endeared Miss Sandy most to those close to her was simply that she was herself—authentic, kind-hearted, and endlessly cheerful.

In her quieter moments, Miss Sandy found joy in the simple comforts of life. She loved to crochet, thoughtfully crafting with her hands, and enjoyed sitting on her porch in her favorite chair, often accompanied by her two cherished cats, Callie and Burke. Her love for animals was a reflection of her gentle and nurturing soul.

The last two years of Miss Sandy’s life brought great challenges as her health declined. Yet, her remarkable strength shone through. She faced each obstacle with unwavering courage, fighting with determination and never giving up. This indomitable spirit touched all who witnessed her journey, inspiring them with her resilience and grace even in difficult times. She was deeply loved, and her absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her.

She is survived by her loving brother Richard Helm and his wife Marsha; her two devoted sons William Rockey and his wife Helen, and Jeffery Rockey and his wife Janice; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Skilev Rockey and Ziah Rockey. Miss Sandy also held a special place in her heart for Judy Boehl, whom she regarded as a daughter and who served as her caregiver, providing love and care in her final days.

Sandra Kay Ross was a remarkable woman whose life radiated kindness, laughter, and unwavering love. Though she has left us, the memories of her smile, her laughter, and the joy she brought into every life she touched will remain forever. The world feels emptier without Miss Sandy, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known her. She will be dearly missed, deeply loved, and fondly remembered.
