Sam K."Ken" Jackson Sr., 68, a resident of Lake City, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2013. He was born in Columbia County to the late William T. and Annette {Keen} Jackson and has remained here all his life. He attended school here in Columbia County up until his senior year when he transferred to Union County High School and graduated in 1964. He retired from the Florida Department of Transportation after 35 years. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved farming, raising cattle, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the First Advent Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jodi Jackson Wood.
Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Janice Jackson; son, Sam K. Jackson Jr. of Lake City, FL; sisters, Billie Ann Sova of Lake City, FL, Francis Arlene Akerman of Jacksonville, FL; and Rhetta Mayfield of Conway, AK; 5 grandchildren, Courtney Wood, Bethany Wood and Adam Wood all of Lake City, FL and Cole Jackson and Brock Jackson both of Aiken, SC.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2013 in the chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Zack Douglas and Pastor Ronnie Sadler officiating. Interment will follow in the Jackson Family Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Friday evening, August 30, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
