Ruth Thomas Tanner
Ruth Thomas Tanner, 82, of Providence, Florida went to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday evening May 6, 2014 at the Suwannee Valley Care Center (Haven Hospice) in Lake City. She was born January 17, 1932 in Gilchrist County to the late Wade and Enolia "Kelly" Thomas. She was a longtime resident of Providence and a faithful member of Old Providence Baptist Church for 64 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grand and great grandmother who loved her family and church family deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Freddie Thomas, Eugene Thomas & H.L. Thomas; her sister, Martha Owens, and in 2010, her devoted husband of 60 years, Carl Tanner.
Survivors include her son, Wayne (Linda) Tanner; daughter, Mary Ann (Stanley) Crawford; 3 grandchildren, Jud (Candace) Tanner, Carrie (Matt) Cason and Brian (Amber) Crawford; 7 great grandchildren, Justus, Luke, & Colton Tanner, Connor, Claire, & Carly Cason and Titus Crawford; sister, Sandra (Donald) Tyre; brothers, Wade (Peggy) Thomas Jr., John L. (Carolyn) Thomas, and Charles (Myra) Thomas; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014 at Old Providence Baptist Church Reverend Kenneth Edenfield, Reverend Zeb Cook and Brian Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held Thursday evening, May 8, 2014
from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Old Providence Church Building Fund at 9316 NW C.R. 245, Lake Butler, Florida 32054.
