Mr. Roy "Butch" Franks, 78, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, December 21, 2023 at the Haven Hospice – Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City after an extended illness. He was born in Atwater, Ohio on February 12, 1945. He has been a resident of Florida for over 48 years, and moved to Lake City in the early 1990's. He came from a family of Barbers and was a Barber for over 50 years and was the owner of Butch's Barbershop here in Lake City for many years until his health forced him to retire. He loved his barbershop customer's dearly and the comradery that he built with each individual. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting old cars, he had at one time a Shelby Cobra, a 1962 Impala, a 40 Ford Coupe, and a 1955 T-Bird (just to name a few). He was also a very good woodworker and built a number of pieces of furniture for his house. He also enjoyed tending to the roses in his rose garden, fishing and big game hunting. He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Franks; and his brother, Ray Franks.
He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Doris J. Franks of Lake City; mother, Wilma Franks of South Carolina; daughters, Cynthia Craig of Kentucky and Tammy Franks of California; step sons, Blaine Hudson (Jennifer) and Ryan Hudson (Emily) both of Lake City; step-daughter, Michelle Harden of Lake City. One sister, Jane Ludlam (Joe) of South Carolina, along with two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren also survive.
A funeral service for Butch will be conducted on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Brother Romey Luke officiating, assisted by Pastor Ralph Rodriguez. Interment will follow in Falling Creek Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 9:30 A.M., prior to the service, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to Haven Hospice, 6037 W. US HWY 90, Lake City, FL, 32055.
