Mr. Roosevelt Dicks, 86, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at his residence following an extended illness. He is the son of the late Drew and Elsie Williams Dicks. Mr. Dicks is preceded in death by his wife Joe Ann Dicks, and his five sisters Terice Dicks Witt, Quinn Dicks Boone, Galena Dicks Roberts, Louise Dicks Crews, and Lola Mae Dicks Coleman and one brother Ned Dicks. Mr. Dicks graduated from Mason City High School in 1957 and then went to serve his country in the United States Army during the Cold war from 1960 to 1962 serving most of his Military duty in Anchorage, AK, as an Air defense Missile Crewman. He did his basic training at Ft. Benning, GA, graduating in the 2nd infantry division combat support. He returned home in 1962 to Lake City, FL where he owned and operated his grocery store before selling the store and moved back to his farm in 1967 where he still lived before his passing. On his farm he grew and marketed fifty-one official crops of tobacco his first one being in 1958. His farm is only one of five left in the state of Florida that still grows tobacco. He turned the farm over to his son Travis in 2013 but stayed active in doing things with his cows until his mid-eighties.
Mr. Dicks survived by his son Travis Drew Dicks (Melissa) Lake City, FL; his three grandchildren Olivia Taylor Dicks, Wesley Joe Dicks, and Ruby Jean Dicks, all of Lake City, FL; two brothers Archie Buie Dicks, Kent, England, and Drew Wayne Dicks, Lake City, FL.
Graveside services for Mr. Roosevelt Dicks will be conducted on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 8:00 AM Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery in Lake City, FL with Brother Regal Dicks officiating. Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow graveside service.
