Ronald Nelson Cox, 78, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, February 5, 2023 at Haven Hospice – Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City after a brief illness. He was a 7th generation Columbia Countian, born on April 5, 1944 to the late Robert and Lois Croft Cox. He was set to retire this year from the FDOT, where he worked as an Engineer for over 53 years in March. He held a Professional Engineering Degree, and he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed genealogical work, was a farmer and cattleman, fishing, golfing and creating different things.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nona Cox of Lake City; children, Staci Cox Frazier, Adrian Cox and Brad Cox (Jesica) all of Lake City; brothers, Jeff Cox (Lois) and Lewis Cox (Janice) both of Lake City; sisters, Geneva Cox Feagle, Polly Morse, Helen Remnet all of Lake City and Loretta Thigpin of Ocala. Five grandchildren, Lyndsey Thompson, Jonathon Thompson, Natalee Thompson, Madalon McCabe and Bryson Cox; and one great-grandson, Eli Nelson Aiden Wheeldon also survives.
A funeral service for Mr. Cox will be conducted on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Bishop Mark Duren officiating. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to the St. Judes Children's Hospital.
