Robert (Bob) Maxwell Garner III, age 72, passed away on Friday morning, May 2, 2025, from complications of Parkinson Disease. He was born December 5, 1952, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Robert and Gloria Garner. Bob graduated from Huffman High School and the University of Alabama.
He worked nearly 40 years in the cable television industry, retiring from Comcast in 2012. Although well known for his "dad" jokes, he believed in serving his community. He was recognized with the prestigious Presidential Community Service Award signed by President Biden. He was happy to serve as president of Friends of the Columbia County Public Library, United Way of Suwannee Valley, and the Rotary Club of Lake City. Among his many honors were the Sam Walton Business Leader Award (1996), the Friends and Trustee Award from the Florida Library Association (1997), and Business Person of the Year from the Lake City/Columbia County Chamber of Commerce (2002).
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Deborah Ruth Bagwell Garner; daughter Cynthia Shaw (Phillip); son Charles "Chip" Garner (Holly); grandchildren, Kirsten Garner, Max Garner, Caycee Shaw and Zachary Shaw; and brother William Garner (Ann); and many loving nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice, including organizations for Youth diabetes, Parkinson's disease, or Haven Hospice of Lake City.
A memorial service for Bob will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME.
