In Loving Memory of Richard Scott Hale Sr.

1/21/1947-11/1/2026

It is with great sadness and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of Richard Scott Hale Sr., who left this life on November 1st at the age of 79 due to an extended illness.

Born on January 21st in Lake City, FL, Richard was a loving son, brother, nephew, husband, father, uncle, papa, coach, and friend. His life was filled with unconditional love, kindness, strength, and cherished memories.

Richard will be affectionately remembered for inspiring countless young people both on and off the field as a dedicated recreation and travel baseball and softball coach. His wisdom, encouragement, and passion for the game left a lasting impression on everyone he coached. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing in Steinhatchee/Horseshoe, hunting in Boligee, AL, playing golf, cheering for Bama football, attending numerous sporting and academic events for his grands, swing dancing “Dancing Bear”, and taking family vacations to the beach, mountains, and Alabama.

Richard graduated from Columbia High School in 1965 and was a member of the 1964 state champion runner-up CHS Football team. He furthered his education at Livingston University in Livingston, AL, where he earned a degree in business and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Richard was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and commitment. He began his career working for the DOT in Lake City, FL, as a right of way agent and later as an appraiser. Richard went on to become self-employed as a respected property appraiser in Lake City and surrounding counties.

Family was the most important to Richard. He leaves to carry on his legacy: his loving wife, Mary Pearson Hale; children Richard Scott Hale Jr., Holly Hale Brewin (Bobby); grandchildren, Ellie, Annie, Everleigh; brothers, Morrison Hale (Voncile), Billy Hale Jr. (Terran); bonus daughters, Casey McDuffie deMoya (Tony), Stephanie Kate Martin (Ken); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended Alabama and Florida family members, and dear friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother and father, Kathryn “Tassie” and W.C. “Billy” Hale Sr.; sister Ann Kathryn Caltrider (Vernon); close uncle Robert B. Harkness Jr. (Teeny); and other loved family members and friends.

Though Richard is no longer with us, his love, kindness, and beautiful memories will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A private Celebration of Life will be held for Richard at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Haven Hospice, 6037 US Highway 90 West, Lake City, FL 32055.
