Mr. Richard Lawrence Chaple, 80, of Lake City, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after an extended illness. He was born in St. Petersburg, FL on August 21, 1936 to the late Vernie Ray Chaple and LaNora Mansfield Chaple. He worked for Honeywell for many years and was a Graduate of the University of South Florida with a Bachelor's Degree in the Business field; he also was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was an Eagle Scout; part of the Air Force Rifle Team and earned a High Master Ranking with the NRA. Mr. Chaple was a member of the Ft. White Gun Club; a range officer of the Wyoming Antelope Club, Skyway Trap and Skeet Club and a member of the World Skeet Shooting Team. When He moved here from the Largo area, he became very involved with radio controlled airplanes and clubs. He was a person who loved the outdoors and more especially loved his family. He is preceded in death by a son: Michael Chaple.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years; Marie Chaple of Lake City; son; Richard "Ray" Chaple of Clearwater and daughter; Lisa Chaple of Eagle, Colorado. Two grandchildren: Logan Chaple of Clearwater and Spencer Chaple of Eagle, Colorado also survives along with many extended friends and family.

Funeral services for Mr. Chaple will be conducted on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 10 AM in the Chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Tyre officiating. Interment will follow at 10 AM on Monday, June 5, 2017 in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 9:00-10:00 AM (one hour prior to the services) at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a Hospice of their choice in honor of Mr. Chaple.
