Raelene B Hood

Raelene B. Lasseigne-Hood was born in Lexington, Michigan on August 24, 1931, at her grandfather's family home. Her parents were Viola and Raymond Yake. She died peacefully on August 7, 2026, in Lake City, Florida at the Haven Hospice Center. She was 94 years old.

She was named after her father, Raymond, but she never really cared for the name Raelene, so she chose to be called Bonnie. Bonita was her middle name. She lived in the Dearborn and Detroit areas of Michigan growing up during the Great Depression and then through WWII.

Bonnie got involved in magic shows in middle school and continued doing shows throughout her teen years. She tap danced and sang and even did Hawaiian dancing. She was always energetic with a positive disposition.

Bonnie moved on her own to Chicago when she was just 22 years old and secured a job as a receptionist at Sears Roebuck and Co. She worked her way to being secretary to one of the Vice Presidents fairly quickly. While in Chicago, she entered a beauty contest and was named Miss Logan Square.

Working at Sears, she met her future husband, Jay Lasseigne, who worked as a buyer. They married on September 19, 1953. They had three children: Lee (Maureen) Lasseigne, Leslie (Leonard) Gossen, and Lon Lasseigne. Grandchildren include Ashley (Brandon) Lasseigne, Father Andrew Mattingly, Bradley Lasseigne, Jayelon (Hunter) Rasmussen, Seth Lasseigne, Kelley Lasseigne, Alyssa Gossen, Andrea (Blaise) Venable, and Jordan (Jordan) Uhrinek, and two great-grandchildren, Allison and William Venable.

Bonnie worked as a secretary at St. Edward Catholic High School in Elgin, Illinois for many years until Jay passed away in 1977. Soon after, she moved to Lake City, Florida to be near her sister and never left. Bonnie worked as a travel agent in Lake City and then as a branch office assistant for Edward Jones until she retired.

In 1997, Bonnie married Jack Hood and gained more daughters, sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jack passed away in 2010. She always said how blessed she was to have married two amazing men who gave her great joy, comfort, and love.

Bonnie has been an avid bowler for more than 60 years, playing on two leagues up until May of 2026, at age 94. She has always been an inspiration with her positiveness and bubbly nature, and everyone wanted her to be on their team. Her highest game was 279, and her best scratch series (age 73) was 628.

A faith-filled woman, Bonnie was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church for many years. She was active in baking, craft fairs, gardening, hospitality, and Bible study. Her church family will miss her dearly.

Since Bonnie’s children all live in different states, her neighbors and stepdaughter, plus her bowling family, church family, and caregivers were instrumental in helping her to be able to stay in her home until just before she died. The family is forever grateful for the unconditional love and care given to Bonnie throughout her years in Lake City.

Bonnie’s family would like to invite you to a visitation at Gateway Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Friday, August 14 from 5 pm to 7 pm.

A memorial service will be held in her honor at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on Saturday, August 15 at 10:00 am, followed by a luncheon in the social hall. All are welcome.
