August 19, 1937 – June 1, 2015
Mr. Pedro "Pete" Mesa, Sr., 77 of Lake City, passed away unexeptantly Monday, June 1, 2015 after injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Pete was born in Wigwam, Colorado a son of sixteen children to the late Angelo Saenz Mesa and Luz Aguilar Mesa and had made Lake City his home since 1995. He graduated from Centenial High School in Pueblo, CO and was a veteran of the United States Army. Pete worked for 32 years as a Civil Engineer with Homestead Air Force Base having retired in 1993. He was a former member of the "Southern Riders" motorcycle club and was an avid hot rod enthusiast and Florida State Drag Racing Champion in 1955, 1956 and 1957. Pete loved the old Western movies with John Wayne or Clint Eastwood and the cowboy history of the late 1800's. Restoring old cars, street rodding, and making rusty things look good again were a few of the things he enjoyed. He was preceded in death in by his wife, Betty Landress in 1989 and 9 nine siblings.
Survivors include his son, Peter Mesa, Jr., Wilkes County, NC; his daughter, Michelle Mesa Davis (Tommy), Homestead, FL; three grandchildren, Jessicah Mesa, Wilkes County, NC, Trevor Allen Davis, Lake City and Julia Grace Davis, Homestead, FL; four brothers, Angelo Mesa (Alice), Hacienda heights, CA, Manuel Mesa, Pueblo, CO, Juan Mesa, Wilmington, CA and Joe Mesa, Denver, CO; two sisters, Margaret Carrillo, Denver, CO and Mercedes "Mary" Mallard, West Palm Beach, FL; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends also survive.
Memorial services will be conducted at 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 6, 2015 in the Chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Father Rob Trujillo, Pastor of Epiphany Catholic Church officiating.
