Pastor Jerry Garfield Hurt, Sr., 89, of High Springs, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia on November 12, 1934, to the late James Garfield Hurt and Shirley Juanita Jones Mousel (Frederick William Mousel, his step-father). He has made the Alachua/High Springs area his home over the last twenty-five years and was a member of the Destiny Community Church. He was a realtor for over 41 years, but most of all, he was a devoted Pastor all of his life. In his spare time, he enjoyed socializing with others, watching NASCAR and volunteering. He loved volunteering with Destiny Community Church where he was recognized as Volunteer of the Year for 2023. He was a Patriot, who loved his country and helping others.

Jerry was blessed with a large family and is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Joan "Joanie" Hurt of High Springs; son, Jerry Garfield Hurt, Jr. (Lisa) of Green Cove Springs; daughters, Cathy Hurt Coleman (Lee) of Hudson and Julie Hurt Winthrop of Trenton. His legacy also includes seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, William David Hurt.

A Celebration of Life service for Pastor Hurt will be conducted on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. in the Destiny Community Church of Newberry with Pastor Rocky McKinnley officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to the Go Fund Me set up for Mrs. Joanie, his wife, @Jerry_JoanieHurt. Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME.
