Obituary

Palma Lou Akins, 81, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was joyfully welcomed into Heaven by her late husband, Max Akins, her father, Jessie Beck, and her mother, Muriel Fox. Palma is survived by her beloved children, Diana Parker (Jimmy), Sandy Markham (Ken), and Ronald Akins (Terie); Grandchildren, Jenifer Coker (Jeff), Chase Markham (Jessica), Haley Brown (Ed); Great-grandchildren, Hilary (Rex), Alison, Emma (Jessie), Ella, Kenleigh, Jacob, Tara ; Great-great-grandchildren, Caroline, Nathan, her cherished sisters, Sonja Gardner, Brenda Daughtery, Barbara Ratliff; her brother, Frankie Beck; and her special partner, Bill Sargent.

A longtime resident of Lake City, Florida, Palma was known for her warm heart and boundless love for those around her. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone she met feel like family, loving with all her heart. Many knew her simply as "Granny"—a title she bestowed with sincerity and deep affection, whether by blood or by bond. She never missed a birthday, always checked in on loved ones, and made sure everyone felt valued and cherished.

Palma was a devoted member of Christian Heritage Church for over 30 years, standing firm in her faith and living a life of service to her Lord and Savior. She shared her faith through her actions, touching countless lives with her kindness, wisdom, and compassion.

Palma Lou Akins lived a full and beautiful life, one defined by love, faith, and family. Her legacy of kindness and devotion will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. While she will be deeply missed, her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she held dear.

A funeral service for Palma will be conducted on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Chris Jones officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to the Lake City Humane Society or to the Heritage Church Joy Fellowship Fund.
