Mrs. Opal B. Mikell, 90 of Lake City, Florida, was born in Cross City, Florida on September 30, 1925 and passed away on July 25, 2016 at her home.  She was an Army wife and had lived in Fayetteville, NC for 26 years before retiring from Army and Air Force Exchange Services on January 1, 1981 and moving to Lake City, Florida.  Mrs. Mikell was of the Baptist faith and a member of Athens Baptist Church for 35 years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon D. Mikell; her sisters, Audrey Revels and Retha Dyal; and her brother, Harold Bland.

Survivors include her children, Betty Whittington (Stacy), Don Mikell (Melody), Pat Masa (Peppi) and Harold Mikell (Pam); 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Athens Baptist Church.  A visitation with the family will be on Tuesday evening, July 26, 2016 from 5-7:00 PM at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home.  A graveside funeral service will be conducted on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville, North Carolina under the direction of Sullivans Highland Funeral Services.  Local arrangements are under the direction of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S US Hwy 441, Lake City.  386-752-1954  Please leave words of comfort for the family at www.gatewayforestlawn.com
