Nancy Joycelyn Koval, 90 of Lake City, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Solaris HealthCare of Lake City. She was born the second of four children to the late Frederick Barr and Viva Roe Cummings. Mrs. Koval was born in Washington County, Virginia and had been a longtime resident of Havre De Grace, MD before moving to Florida and eventually making her home in Lake City in 2002. She was of the Methodist faith and a member of Bethel Methodist Church in Lake City. Mrs. Koval enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and Biloxi and trying her luck at the slot machines. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and making memories playing Bingo, Yahtzee, Jenga and Boggle. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John Koval; and two brothers, Ralph and Sid Barr.
Survivors include her daughter, Vivian Retrossa of Lake City; one brother, Freddie Barr, Jr. of Fort Pierce; two granddaughters, Michele Smith (Phillip) of Crestview and Wendy Jackson (Jammie) of Lake Nona; numerous nieces and nephews including Nancy Barr Urso of Port St. Lucie and Ronald Barr (Darren Frymoyer) of Fort Pierce; four great grandchildren, Austin Smith, Ashlee VandeZande (Rob), Kaytlin Robinson (Noah) and Lacie Bush (Nathaniel); and two great great grandchildren, Barrett Smith and Eliana Smith.
Funeral services for Mrs. Koval will be conducted on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Tim Dunavant officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. A time of visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
