Mollie Ferdon, 94, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, July 2, 2024 at the Haven Hospice – Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City. She was born in Eastman, Georgia on January 12, 1930 to the late Turner Rigby and Sarah Elizabeth Rigby. She worked for a number of years for the Duval County Sheriff's Office as a Crossing Guard for the Pines Estates Elementary School. She lived most of her life in the Jacksonville area, where she attended the Jones College to further her education; and she moved to Lake City in 2016. She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church here in Lake City as well as Highlands Baptist Church in Jacksonville. In her spare time, she enjoyed making crafts (Good Attitude Bees), volunteering in nursing homes and VBS, reading to children at school, and spreading the gospel. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Ferdon, Jr.; and eleven of her siblings.
She is survived by her children, Richard Ferdon, III (Molly) of Jacksonville, Jessie Long of Lake City, Marcus Ferdon of Palatka, William Ferdon of Jacksonville, Jimmy Ferdon (Jane) of Jacksonville and Brian Ferdon (Michelle) of Live Oak along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
A funeral service for Mrs. Ferdon will be conducted on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in the Parkview Baptist Church with Pastor Daniel Morris, officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Jacksonville at 3:00 P.M.. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Friday evening, July 5, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
