Michael John Woods, 72, passed away on January 1, 2026, in Gainesville, Florida. Born on February 5, 1953, in Witney, in the county of Oxford, England, Michael lived a life marked by generosity, skill, and deep devotion to his family and friends.
Michael was known to many as the "engine whisperer," a title earned through his remarkable talent as a diesel mechanic. His mechanical intuition and hands-on expertise made him the go-to person for anyone with an engine in need of repair. Whether it was a tractor on the farm or a go-kart in the backyard, Michael could bring it back to life with care and precision.
Beyond his professional skills, Michael found great joy in working on his farm and tending to his garden. He had a deep appreciation for the land and took pride in nurturing it. It was a quiet passion that brought him much satisfaction over the years.
Family was at the heart of everything Michael did. He is survived by his beloved wife, Vian Tiffany Woods; his daughter, Lara Dobelstein Wehrli (Michael); his sister, Trisha Woods; grandsons Reid Michael Wehrli (Kerstin & Illias) and Cole Robert Wehrli; and great-granddaughter Nora Wehrli. He was preceded in death by his father Buck Woods, mother Jean Woods, and sister Lisa Woods.
Michael's home was always filled with activity and laughter—especially when it came to his grandsons and their friends. He made sure scooters, go-karts, and four-wheelers were always running smoothly so they could enjoy endless hours of fun. His presence brought warmth and energy to every gathering.
Those who knew Michael will remember him as someone with an enormous heart. He was always ready to lend a hand or share a moment of camaraderie—whether chatting with friends around a burn pile or frying up a turkey during the holidays. His friendships were genuine and lasting, built on mutual respect and shared moments of joy.
Michael John Woods touched many lives with his kindness, humor, and unwavering support. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire acts of generosity and love. A Service will be held on February 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Bethel Methodist Church 4843 S US Highway 441. We will have small gathering after the service in the church community building. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
