Michael “Mike” Drewett passed away at his home on June 4, 2026, three days short of his 80th birthday. He was born June 7, 1946, in Winnfield, Louisiana to the late Harold Drewett and Nola Burnett Drewett. After their divorce, his mother married Roma Hoyt Manasco who essentially became a father to Mike.
Mike’s journey through life was marked by a deep commitment to education and service. After graduating from Columbia High School in Lake City in 1964, he attended Lake City Junior College where he continued to develop his interest in art. He put his education on hold in February of 1966 when he enlisted in the United States Army. He was Honorably Discharged in December of 1969 and subsequently finished his degree at Lake City Junior College. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of West Florida.
After completing his education, Mike was employed by the Escambia County School District where he taught Art and Photography. He faithfully served the students of Escambia County until his retirement. Beyond the classroom, Mike was an avid reader, gardener, cyclist, and bowler while continuing his interests in art.
Mike is survived by his sister, Pamela Manasco Jarvis and her husband, Robert L. “Skip” Jarvis, two nieces, Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Jarvis Cohen and Sara Marie Jarvis Patton, and numerous great grandnieces and nephews.
The family will hold a graveside service at Gateway Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lake City, Florida on June 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend.
