Melody Lee Downey, 60 of Lake City, Florida, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at her home.  She was born in Bradenton, Florida to the late John and Robin Simmons.  Mrs. Downey was a lifelong resident of Parrish, Florida before moving to Lake City in 2007.  She was a member of the Parrish Baptist Church and loved to spend time with her family and friends.  Mrs. Downey enjoyed crafting, painting, knitting and making toys for her children and grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Phyllis Chitty.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel A. Downey, Sr., Lake City; four children and their families, Jacob Alan Simmons (Brittany) and grandchildren, Brooklyn, Luca, Ari and Jude of Palmetto, Daniel A. Downey, Jr. (Ginny) and granddaughter, Ava of Locust Grove, VA, Daniela Lee Moreland (Richard Woods) and grandchildren, Mahayla, Kiplyn and Tyler of Live Oak, and Timothy J. Downey, Sr. (Felisha) and grandchildren, Allison and Timothy, Jr. of Fort White.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 3:00 PM at the Parrish Cemetery in Parrish, Florida.  A visitation with a viewing will be from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, prior to the service at the cemetery.
