Mr. Maxie Dell Markham, 91 of Lake City, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016.  He was a lifelong resident of Columbia County and a son to the late William Walter and Donnie Hancock Markham.  Mr. Markham was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army and served in the Occupational Force in the European Theatre.  Mr. Markham retired in 1988 from the Florida Department of Transportation with 30+ years of service.  He was a member of the Mikesville Advent Christian Church and was recently attending Eastside Baptist Church in Lake City.  Mr. Markham loved to grow his garden and even more enjoyed sharing his crops with family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Claudine Crews Markham, four siblings, Irita Markham, Lora Mae M. Register, Reese Reynolds Markham and Dorrie M. Witt Smith.

Survivors include his son, Randall D. "Randy" Markham, Lake City; one brother, Ray Markham (Dorothy), Jacksonville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Lowell O'Steen and Rev. Hugh Dampier officiating.  Interment will follow.  Visitation with the family will be Sunday afternoon from 3-5 pm at the funeral home.
