IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Edna
Reichert
February 25, 1934 – August 12, 2022
Edna Reichert, age 88, went home to be with our Lord Jesus on Friday, August 12, 2022, after a brief illness. Born February 25, 1934, in Jacksonville, FL, she was predeceased by Wally, her beloved husband of 63 years, her daughter Eileen Jacob (Randy), two brothers Charles and Earl Hoskins and her father and mother, WC and Ruth (Ogelsby) Hoskins. She is survived by her son, Richard Reichert (Jill), 5 granddaughters: Katie Harer (Jacob) of Shrewsbury, MA, Molly (Nick) Ashur of Charlottesville, VA, Sarah (Ethan) Windham of Gainesville, FL, Chrissie Reichert of Cary, NC, and Rachel Jacob of Jacksonville, FL. She is further survived by three great-granddaughters: Emma Grace (2) and Zoey Elizabeth (3 mo) Harer; and Aurelia Hope Ashur who was born into this world August 12 as Edna was born into Heaven.
Edna graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville and took pride in being a native Floridian whose family dates back to the original pioneers of Florida before statehood. She and Wally were high school sweethearts and married shortly after graduation when Wally entered the Marine Corps. They spent much of their life in West Palm Beach, FL where Edna enjoyed her role as wife, mother, and small business owner of a ceramic art enterprise. Upon their retirement in 1994 they moved to Lake City which she often described as the "best 25 years of her life."
Edna was a faithful missionary for Christ serving at both the First Presbyterian Church and subsequently at Gateway Baptist Church. In November 2000, she initiated the Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the Presbyterian Church which continues today. Her tremendous love of children led her to serve as VBS Director, Children's Choir Director, and Sunday School teacher. With her love of missions, Edna served as Mission Coordinator for Samaritan's Purse, the Angel Prison Ministry, and faithfully supported many Christ-centered ministries such as Faith Radio, One Mission Society, The American Bible Institute, Paralyzed Vets of America, Samaritan's Purse, Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, and others. Over the years she was also a loyal supporter and volunteer with the Friends of the Columbia County Library in Lake City.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Gateway Baptist Church, 3252 SR 247, Lake City, FL, with Pastor Steve Thompson officiating. A visitation for friends and family will be held at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary just prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Edna's honor to be given to Gateway Baptist Church, Haven Hospice of Lake City, or any of the missions listed above to which she was so dedicated.
