Obituary

Mary Lou Perry, 91, of Lake City, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, April 10, 2024 after a brief illness. She was born in Williamson, West Virginia on November 27, 1932 to the late James Gordon Sammons and Lona Perry Sammons. She has made Lake City her home for most of her life and was a homemaker. Her greatest blessing in life was her family, and to them, she has left a legacy of love. Although talented in many ways, (cooking, sewing, upholstering, and singing), she was humble and enjoyed the simple things of life as much as the extravagant. For her, a trip to the mountains was as big as going to the Grand Canyon or to Nova Scotia. The birth of another child into the family was her greatest joy.

She loved holding and watching her children and grandchildren. Most importantly, she loved Jesus and her oft-repeated prayers were filled with gratitude to God for His abundant love, mercy and grace. Maybe, this was the reason she lived to be 91. She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Perry; her son Gordon Perry; and her great-grandsons, Alder Garuz and Ty Williams

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Donny) Williams, Terry Perry and Amy (Lance) Illing; sons, Frederick (Jennifer) Perry, Gus (Cindy) Perry, Jonathan (Danielle) Perry and Michael (Lynda) Perry. Nineteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.

A funeral service for Mrs. Perry will be conducted on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Lewis Gooch officiating. Interment will follow in the Fellowship Baptist Church of Suwannee County. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 2:00 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
