Obituary

Mrs. Mary Anne Houston, 86 of Lake City, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at the Haven Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center in Lake City.  She was born in Montgomery, Alabama the third to the youngest of eight children to the late Dewey and Mary Crumley Williams.  Soon after her birth, the family moved to Elizabethton, Tennessee where she was raised.  She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee.  Mrs. Houston has been a resident of Lake City since 1962 and had worked for 30 years with the VA Medical Center with 10 of those years as a surgery nurse in the operating room, 10 years as an infection control nurse and her last 10 years in quality assurance.  She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Lake City and was an avid bridge player having played in several local groups thru the years.  Mrs. Houston was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Fay Campbell, Paul Williams, Ralph Williams and Roger Williams.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Ottis Houston, Lake City; two sons, Jeffrey Houston (Elizabeth), Jacksonville and Gregory Houston (Kimberly), Lake City; one brother, Benny Williams, San Francisco, CA; two sisters, Betty Smalley, Roswell, GA and Patsy Rogers, Orlando; four grandchildren, Cassidy and Clayton Houston both of Jacksonville and Hunter and Haley Houston both of Lake City; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Houston Cemetery near Blakely, Georgia.  In lieu of flowers, the family request for contributions to be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lake City at 973 S Marion Ave, Lake City, FL 32025 or to the Haven Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center at 6037 W US Hwy 90, Lake City, FL 32055, in memory of Mrs. Houston.
