Mary Sue Hembree (May 17, 1936 – January 8, 2022) passed away at the Lake City Medical Center following treatment for a spinal compression fracture and complication following COVID-19. She was born in Mishawaka, Indiana and has lived in Lake City, Florida since 1974.
On August 1, 1954, Mary Sue and Don were married by Mary Sue's father at the Truelove United Methodist Church in Loogootee, IN. At that time her life began as a military spouse traveling to multiple states. Upon Don completing his time in the military they returned to Indiana where they both continued their education graduating from Indiana State University in June of 1960. She later continued her education getting her Master's degree in elementary education from Purdue University. Mary Sue and Don were blessed with two children, Tim born April 22, 1965 and Tammy born March 22, 1967. She was very strong in her faith and enjoyed sharing her lovely alto voice in the choir at First United Methodist Church of Lake City. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling.
Mary Sue is survived by her husband of 67 years, Don Hembree; son Tim Hembree (Marcelle); daughter Tammy Stone; granddaughters Kelsie McCarty (Spencer) and Madison Cruz (Darwin); grandsons Shae Stone, Garrett Stone (Brittanie), Trevor Newby; great grandchildren Naidyn Stone, Annistyn Stone, and Ryder Smith-Parker; sister Linda Raber (Greg); brother Robert Ping. She is the daughter of late LeRoy W and Mary Elizabeth Ping.
