Martha B. Brown, 99, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2021 at Haven Hospice, Lake City, FL. She was born on October 19, 1921 in Atlanta, GA to the late Ernest G. and Vera McGarity Brock. She grew up in the Atlanta area where she met and married her loving husband, Jack.
The Brown family moved to Lake City in 1961 and she became very active in several local organizations. She was an active member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, she was employed by Lake City Community College in 1965 as Director of Admissions and Registrar and worked there until her retirement. Martha was a very remarkable person. After both of her daughters graduated from college, she decided to attend college herself, and while working full-time at LCCC, she graduated from the University of Florida with high honors.
Martha was known for sewing beautifully, knitting, crocheting, and hand quilting many gorgeous, award winning quilts. She also enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She will be greatly missed by her loving family.
Martha is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jack N. Brown, her sister, Sara Bracewell (Bob), and brother, Gene Brock (Rose). She is survived by two loving daughters, Patricia Meyer (Rich), Lynchburg, VA, and Jackie Hunter (Ed) of Lake City. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Diana Boos, Chicago, IL, Larry Boos (Carolina), Colorado Springs, CO and, Scott Hunter (Amy), Littleton, CO. Six great grandchildren, LeAnne Boos and Kevin Boos, Coral Springs, FL, Jack Boos, Colorado Springs, CO, Rylee Hunter, Kinley Hunter and Emberly Hunter, Littleton, CO. Special nephew, Mike Bracewell (Ruth), Madison, GA and special niece, Jan Fuller (Ron), Blairsville, GA also survive.
A memorial service will be held at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Kevin Hall officiating. A private interment service will be held at the West Family Cemetery in Fayetteville, GA. Because of these uncertain times, masks are requested to be worn by the family and social distancing followed.
