June 23, 1929 – March 1, 2025
Marion June Burks Olson, 95, passed away in Jacksonville, Florida on March 1, 2025 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Newnan, Georgia to Horace and Katherine Burks on June 23, 1929.
After graduating from Austell High School in 1946, she moved with her family to Miami, Florida and began working for Southern Bell. It was in Miami that she met and married her husband, Edward (Eddie) Olson. They were married in 1950 and together they had three children.
June was a lifelong advocate and leader for the handicapped. While living in Fort Lauderdale, she started the first Cub Scout Troop for the handicapped and worked countless hours opening the first thrift shop whose proceeds went to support the needs of local handicapped children.
After moving to Lake City in 1974, she continued to advocate for the handicapped by becoming a charter member of the local C.A.R.C and serving on the Board of Directors. She was instrumental in establishing the House of Bargains and spent many hours working to make it a success.
June was preceded in death by her loving husband Eddie, her son Gary her parents and her sister Caroline Codianne.
June and Eddie were members of Bethel United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter Beverly (John), her son Dave (Vera), her sister Shirley Camp and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Mrs. Olson will be conducted on Thursday March 6, 2025, at 12:00 Noon at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Interment will follow. A time of visitation with the family will be prior to the service starting at 11:00 AM till 11:45 AM at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
